Introduction
Ossiculoplasty is the surgery done to treat damaged ear bone, known as ossicles. Damaged ear bones can also lead to hearing loss. This surgery is done through carefully designed artificial bones. This operation is done by making an incision behind the ear or incision made in the ear canal.
Procedure
Patient undergoing this surgery is given local anesthesia in the beginning of the surgery. A surgical cut is made behind the ear or in the ear canal. The damaged ear bones are then removed and cleaned. This is then replaced with the artificial bones.
Length
This lengthy surgery generally takes a day to fully discharge the patient.
Side Effects of Ossiculoplasty
Some amount of bleeding is experienced for a few days after the surgery. If there is side effects like increasing hearing loss, pain, fever and discharge from ear, then the patient should immediately consult the doctor.
