Stapedotomy

Introduction

Stapedotomy, as the name indicates it is the surgery of the small bone in the middle ear, which is known as stapes. Any disorder affecting the ear can lead to hearing loss. So, this surgery is done to help in conducting sound to the ear.

Procedure of Stapedotomy

Stapedotomy is performed when the three stapes or bones of the ear gets fussed. This surgery removes the stapes and replaces them with artificial ones made from materials like Teflon.

The length of the surgery depends upon the extent of the damage and the condition of the patient.

Side Effects of Stapedotomy

post surgery you can see a little dizziness and uneasiness. Sometimes, there can be 2% of hearing loss due to improper healing. Rare cases of temporary facial weakness can also be seen.
