Introduction
Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgery which is performed in order to improve the function or the appearance of a human nose. Rhinoplasty is also popularly known as "nose reshaping" or "nose job". It can be performed to correct trauma, birth defects or breathing problems. Rhinoplasty can be combined with other surgical procedures such as chin augmentation to enhance the aesthetic results.
Procedure
There are two possible methods of performing this surgery to the nose, closed approach and open approach. In closed Rhinoplasty, incisions are done inside the nostrils. In open Rhinoplasty, an additional inconspicuous incision is made across the columella, which is the bit of skin that separates the nostrils. The surgeon first separates the skin and soft tissues of the nose from the inner structures. The cartilage and bone is reshaped, and the incisions are then closed.
Length
This surgery takes approximately 1 to 2 hours to give you a beautiful and attractive nose.
Risks
Small burns or infections are the common risks with this surgery. It can also cause permanent red spots. If you are not satisfied with the nose job, then additional surgeries are performed.
Side effects
Temporary swelling can be seen after the surgery and you can also experience temporary obstruction due to swelling. The scars due to surgery can be treated by after surgery ointments and medicines.
