Periodontal Flap surgery and Bone Grafting is usually performed by taking out a graft from the palate and then it is transplanted into the area which is affected. Gum is stitched so that no microorganisms can enter and create problems for the new growth. This bone grafting prevents the thin gum from receding further. It also helps in covering up the exposed root and also reduces tooth sensitivity.

No major side effects are seen in this surgery. Normal pain and swelling will remain for few days post surgery. The graft material is absorbed by the human body. This material can be excreted through kidneys without any ill effects on the body.
